Here is an interesting critique of the Common Core State Standards from Carol Burris, an accomplished educator. But it turns out to be less a critique of the standards than a calm and reasoned critique of how New York state is implementing the standards and the new testing regimen. And she’s got great, grounded recommendations (starting at minute 11).
It’s worth listening to just because she’s so smart and knowledgable but also because it serves as a counterpoint to the conspiracy analyses that pass for debate about the Common Core standards.
Although we’re off to a good start in rolling out the new standards in New Hampshire, there are still plenty of ways to make mistakes and Carol Burris has good advice about how to avoid them.
